Sunday 26th April
In this months issue of Airports World there is a small article on the proposal of the runway extension at Birmingham.
It reads
Although original plans to construct a second runway at Birmingham International airport were dropped in 2007, the airports proposal to extend the existing runway was approved by Solihull Council's planning committee on March 31st. The £120 million project will extend the runway by 1,312ft (400m) to enable aircraft to take off at higher weights, thus opening up the possibilities of new long-haul destinations being served.
Business have welcomed the move, as has the airport operator but in a statement made after the announcement, a spokesman said that "clarification of the wording" was required on several issues before the project could finally go ahead.
